Point 6 - James Blunt Past Videos

James Blunt video research

  • ‘You’re Beautiful’. I like this video due to the emotion that is present throughout the film, and due to the simplicity with which it is presented. Blunt has managed to create a powerful sense of love and sadness by relying on his own passion and feelings: he has not had to use images of  a sexualised girl to engage the audience, and this makes the video yet more powerful.

  • ‘Cold’. This video is an intertextual continuation of Blunts earlier video ‘You’re Beautiful’, which was released 16 years prior to the release of ‘Cold’. I like this video because it replicates much of  the emotion present in his older video. Furthermore, it shows a man who has moved on from his earlier troubles and demons, and can act as an inspiration to people, proving that one’s problems do not last forever. Again, it is a simple concept, and it does not require the sexualisation of women to provoke emotion.

  • ‘Monsters’. This is a video consisting of very few long shots, and was presumably fairly cheap to produce. It is extremely emotional with the presence of Blunt’s ill father, and the real tears that are present throughout the film make the work seem meaningful and heartfelt. Since the film is made up of just a couple of shots and angles, the audience feel as if they are in the room with Blunt and his father, making the emotional connection between audience and producer ever stronger.
